It was a pretty chilly morning in Old Town Alexandria when I did Kylie's senior portraits. We thought a lot about summer and hot coffee to keep us going! She was a true sport and we had a lot of fun! She had no problem walking down King Street with me and ditching her coat whenever needed.

When a good friend of mine said her sister was going to be visiting her and that she hadn't gotten senior portraits yet and she was just a few months from graduating, I knew that we had to make it happen. I'm so glad Kylie and her mom thought it was a good idea! Kylie agreed to met me in Old Town on her way into D.C. with a friend to do some touristy exploring. She has such a beautiful soul! I had a wonderful time getting to know her and hearing about her plans for the summer and college. (Also, wonderful bonus when you have a friend come along and I have an unknowing assistant! He also was a great sport and was happy to have Kylie's coat ready to go when we were walking between photo spots.

Old Town Alexandria has some really amazing photo spots and I'm really sad I don't live close anymore! There wasn't a lot of foot traffic due to the weather and we went early enough that most of the businesses weren't open yet.

I love letting locations "speak" to me. We just walked down King street from the metro a bit and stopped wherever we felt like it. Kylie was up for anything and was happy to stop whenever something popped out at us.

After we were done photographing we stopped in at Misha's coffee to warm up, get caffeinated, and chat a bit before Kylie and her friend went into D.C. and I went home to hang out with my dog and edit. When we stepped out to retrace out steps to the metro I saw this amazing wall on a building across the street. I knew I had to get some photos in front of it and Kylie was all in. I love geometric shapes in photos. The shapes and patterns bring great visual interest into the photos.

The icing on the cake from this great session with Kylie was her mom's response when the photos were delivered. She was ecstatic and loved the images to much. I'm so glad Kylie and I were able to get photos the week she was in town. I love celebrating that special year where teenagers are becoming adults and are stepping into a whole new wonderful world of possibilities!
