I spend a lot of my time for portraits sessions in parks. I love the green and gloriousness of mother nature. Also, Ohio has some beautiful Metroparks! But there is something special about doing urban sessions. Incorporating man-made geometry, the visual spectacle of tall buildings, and some of the decay of a city.
This was my first session with Morgan, and when I learned that she was also an artist (a very talented sculptor), I knew an urban setting would fit her very well.
Morgan has such a natural sense of style. So, we started with a complete look she brought. I brought this colorful over-sized sweater for a few portraits. I love the pop of color with all the blues and grays of the building. I made this weird wire "mask" for some more artistic close-ups. I'm glad Morgan loved experimenting with it!
After our first stop, we walked around the corner because I loved the exposed building. On the way, we paused for some great, dramatic light. I love using natural light and embracing the beauty of what it gives me.
We had fun throwing around the giant trench-coat I found while thrifting. I loved trekking a bit of downtown Dayton with Morgan for these photos. Urban sessions are always so much fun, and a nice detour from Metroparks. There's always so many options for photography locations.
