I was in the middle of setting up separate sessions for both Tony and Taylor. I had worked with both of them before, and they knew each other in school. So, I asked if they would be interested in scheduling sessions on the same day so we could overlap their sessions and do something together. They both said yes and we had some fun creating some art portraits. It was great working with them both again!
Since it was super hot in the middle of summer, we decided to meet up in the studio. I liked the idea of simple backgrounds so we could just focus more on them. I really love these editorial photos.
For Taylor and Tony together, I really wanted to focus on their contrasting skin tones and keep them very close together. I don't often plan out exact poses in advance, I usually just let things happen organically. But, I planned poses for this session: I knew exactly what I wanted for these portraits together.
Once we did the pictures together, Tony left and Taylor and I spent a little time together. We kept the white background for just a couple pictures, then went with a blue background.
Fun story for how we got to the last two images: I had a floor light in my studio for just some ambient light when the flash wasn't blasting. I loved the orange glow, so I turned off my studio lights and brought the lamp over close to Taylor. These might be my favorite photos of the entire session and it was just with one regular light from around my house! Beautiful studio portraits don't have to be limited to a lot of studio equipment! Keep the ideas flowing and don't restrict yourself to what you know.
